The Insanity of Lawn CareApril 28, 2017
Albert Einstein once said that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. And at Stangl’s, what we’ve already seen just a few weeks into the season is truly insane.
As we’re out there, bringing our customers safe solutions for their lawn that will produce green lawns with no weeds or pests, we look across the street and see insane lawn care practices. We see other lawn care companies pouring toxic fertilizers onto lawns, using weed killers and pest killers that don’t just kill the unwanted, but also the pets and family members that use that same lawn.
While they do, the customer is standing there, smiling and happy. Because they think these “solutions” are actually going to work. After all, they used the same lawn care company last year and were rewarded with a beautiful green lawn.
But did they really work? If so, why is the same company back, trying to solve the same problem with the same unsafe chemicals?
On the part of the companies using these toxic chemicals, it’s insanity at its finest. As for the customer, a lot of them simply don’t know. They don’t know that the use of fertilizers and weed killers are causing compaction in their lawn. They don’t know that those chemicals aren’t really working, because they continue to see the same results. The results they expect to see, and the results that the big marketing and chemical companies have sold them. For the customer, it’s not a question of insanity; it’s simply a matter of not being aware.
At Stangl’s, we’re here to bring awareness to those same customers. We want them to know that the chemicals that bring their lawn back to life within days can do so because their objective is to simply kill. They kill the weeds and they kill the pests that inhabit their lawn. But, they also kill the people and pets that use that same lawn.
Fertilizers, weed killers and pest killers do not discriminate. They kill everything they come into contact with, whether the homeowner wants them to or not. They also cause runoff into our waterways, creating algae blooms and killing off the animals and fish that live and feed off those waterways.
Albert Einstein’s definition of insanity can be seen just by taking a look around our neighbourhoods.
Einstein also said “Intellectuals solve problems, geniuses prevent them.”
That’s all we’re trying to do at Stangl’s. We’re preventing dried-out unhealthy lawns, and we’re preventing the cancers and sicknesses that accompany all those fertilizers and other toxins. We’re trying to make people aware of what these chemicals actually do, so they too can start preventing problems before they occur.
