The Latest Damning Evidence against MonsantoOctober 4, 2017
It seems as though people have known about the dangers of Monsanto, specifically their most popular product– Roundup – for years. Canada has gone so far as to ban the substance from being sold here. But while citizens may have stopped using this product, they may not realize the malice that is behind it.
That true intent came out earlier this month, when attorneys from Baum, Hedlund, Aristei & Goldman made certain documents available to the public while representing hundreds of plaintiffs accusing Monsanto of causing the cancer they were now dealing with, non-Hodgkin lymphoma.
Those documents include emails, texts, and other papers making up a trail that Monsanto undoubtedly hoped would never be uncovered. One of the most damning pieces of evidence came from none other than Donna Farmer, a Lead Toxicologist working for Monsanto. In one of her quotes she states,
“The terms glyphosate and Roundup cannot be used interchangeably nor can you use ‘Roundup’ for all glyphosate-based herbicides any more. For example, you cannot say that Roundup is not a carcinogen. We have not done the necessary testing on the formulation to make that statement.”
What this means is that Monsanto knew about the dangers of their product, well before the thousands of people now suffering filed a class action lawsuit against them.
How many more people have to get sick? How many more lawsuits need to be filed, before people realize the dangers that come with herbicides such as Roundup and fertilizers such as Scott’s Turf Builder. Monsanto’s behaviour is disgraceful at best, but the public also needs to start becoming more aware that these are harmful and toxic materials. Then they can start voting with their pocketbook as they say, and put these toxic-pushing companies out of business.
That’s what happened with me, Michael Stangl, years ago. I learned about the poison people are applying to their lawns – really learned about it, and about what it was doing to our health and our environment – and I had to stop. I didn’t know what was going to happen. I didn’t know how my livelihood would be affected. I did know that I could not, in good conscious, continue to be a contributor to the problem.
But the bad news with Monsanto doesn’t end there. In another document, also written by Donna Farmer, she writes, “Overall, although the results are suggestive, they fail to demonstrate a significant association of glyphosate exposure with the risk of spontaneous abortion and should be considered cautiously in light of the substantial exposure misclassification that is likely to have taken place and the lack of adjustment made to the ORs to account for the influence of confounding variables.”
Those strikeouts aren’t a mistake. Ms. Farmer actually included those in her own written text, seemingly trying to show that the results in fact weren’t suggestive, and that Roundup did not actually cause spontaneous abortion – although in reality they might.
So, if Monsanto is willing to lie to us to this extent, about such grave consequences that their product has, and the fact that they’re aware of the consequences, what else are they willing to lie to us about? Just how far are they willing to go to keep their secret, which isn’t so little but truly is dirty?
These are all questions we should be asking, and not just about Monsanto. Do all companies know that their products cause cancer? And are the companies putting their own employees at risk by allowing them to be in such close contact with the product for extended periods of time?
These are all very valid questions, and they’re all questions we should all be asking. At Stangl’s, these are the questions we’ve been asking for years and while we might not have the answer to them, we do have an answer. That lies in providing completely biological solutions that don’t hurt the earth but in fact, help it to sustain growth and provide green and healthy lawns.
